in seoul

i'm in korea now. the flight (on asiana) was pretty uneventful. some turbulence but not too bad. watched a few movies. popped some sleeping pills. but only managed to sleep about an hour total on the flight. my boss lent me his bose noise cancellation headphones and i wore them nearly the entire flight. they were great. my veggie meal requests didn't make it through my reservation. so had a fun time picking the ground beef outta my bibimbap. and was eating soup and thought it smelled rather fishy. decided i could live with that and then bit down into a bite of chicken. ergh. i think this is gonna be a meaty week. my hotel has veg pizza and pasta though! but it was a nice flight. all announcements (and there were a lot of them) were made in korean before they were made in english. and then a couple of the attendants had such thick accents I couldn't tell when they would start speaking english. fun. the incheon airport was pretty deserted feeling when we got in (~6pm). so i moved through customs and found the buses pretty easily. couple of cabbies hanging out inside the airport tried to convince me to ride with them instead of taking the bus. but their fare is about 10x. the bus was loading up as i bought my ticket so i got right on. 70 minute bus ride to the hotel. i'm in a business room and it's nice. smaller than the humongous places i've stayed at in vegas on my last few trips. but nice enough. i was worried about not having all the normal amenities like shampoo, hair dryer, etc. but it's all here. except an iron. instead i have a trouser ironing thing. not quite sure how to use that. luckily my suit jackets(!) made it through without getting too wrinkled. they do offer a pressing service but that seems crazy. my room is up on the 24th floor and i have a nice view of a bunch of city buildings. looking forward to seeing things in the daylight. didn't sleep very well last night. it's 4:30am now. killing time till i go meet a coworker for breakfast. unfortunately i can't remember what she looks like so hopefully she'll find me!
